Tribute to our volunteers, the engine of Exporail

Volunteer Week 2020

SAINT-CONSTANT, April 20, 2020 - Like other cultural institutions, Exporail has taken a series of preventive and collective measures to face the current crisis and has been closed since Sunday, March 15. The administrative team is teleworking while the 133 volunteers, faithful allies of Exporail who have been an integral part of the Museum since its creation in 1961, put their passion on hold for the health and well-being of all.

As part of Volunteer Week, which runs from April 19 to 25, Exporail would like to pay online tribute to these railway history enthusiasts who contribute to the life of the Museum every day, passing on their knowledge and know-how. At Exporail, many functions are filled by volunteers, from animation to track maintenance and administrative support. Volunteers donated 26,504 hours of their time in 2019. Many activities at the Museum are made possible thanks to the vast expertise of our volunteers, including telegraphy demonstrations, maintaining the model train network and operating the passenger train and streetcar. Thanks to their commitment and dedication, Exporail is able to offer visitors a true railway experience. Volunteers also lend their skills to various committees that support the management of the Museum and its operations. They form an efficient and effective team with the employees: this is what makes Exporail a unique institution in Quebec.

In order to continue bringing Exporail to life virtually, varied content has already been offered since the beginning of the month with the keyword #exporailathome Internet users looking for an escape have been able to learn more about railway vehicles, archives and artifact collections thanks to videos of railway journeys, made as part of the renewal of the permanent exhibition, images from our accredited archive centre, publications written by the museum curator and, a photo competition! With the broadcast of video clips featuring a few friendly and dedicated volunteers, the public will have plenty of time to get to know them and appreciate their sense of commitment. These are meetings not to be missed from Monday, April 20 to Saturday, April 25 on Exporail's social networks: Facebook and Instagram.

While waiting for everything to start up again: THANK YOU to all the volunteers and "All Aboard!" " Take care of yourself "
